The Best Holiday Street in North America

By Ian Price | thoughts and travel tips

Dec 13

The oldest commercial district in North America, the Rue Petit-Champlain in Old Quebec is a holiday extravaganza during the month of December. At the base of Cap Diamant where the Chateau Frontenac sits grandly overseeing the river and city, the street is bordered by Breakneck Stairs on one end and a large mural depicting the history of the district including the bombardments of 1759, landslides, and fires at the other. Reminiscent of Old Europe, clusters of souvenir shops and small restaurants like La Lapin Saute provide shelter from the cold and Santa is a celebrity.
